Winter Sports Season Roundup: A Season to Remember
As we wrap up the Winter Sports season, let’s take a moment to congratulate our athletes and teams for their outstanding performances and achievements across various sports! It’s been a season of success, hard work, and dedication.
Swimming and Diving: A Legacy of Excellence
The Boys and Girls Swim and Dive teams continue to dominate, securing their 12th consecutive District Championship title. Congratulations to the following individual champions for their remarkable performances:
Harry Xiao, Rem Turatbekov, Nabil Elakari, and Leo Valli – District Champions
Madeline Roche, Emma Dewhirst, Samantha Carr, Laura Prudius, Emma He, Payton Morris – District Champions
Finishing in the top 5 at the regional dive meet were Rem Turatbekov (2), Ryan Wells (4) and Amy Nam (5) and in swim were Madeline Roche (4) in Girls 500 Free, Sam Carr, Laura Prudius, Payton Morris, Emma He (5) Girls 200 Free Relay, Nabil Elakari (4) Boys 100 Back
And in the state dive tournament Rem Turatbekov finished (3)
Track and Field: Strong Performances Across the Board
The Winter Track and Field season was filled with amazing achievements:
The Girls Indoor Track and Field team took an impressive 2nd place at the District Championships. Special shout-out to Sita Lamartin, Breanne Graham, Courtenay Klein, and Sydney Hammond, who became National District Champions!
The Boys Indoor Track and Field team finished in 5th place at the District Championships, with standout athletes Ryan Power, Aidan Cho, Steven Wines, Justin Yuan, Nathan Liu, and Luke Flecker earning District Champion honors.
The Gymnastics Team had another incredible season with a 10-1 district record, finishing 2nd at the District Championships, and qualifying for the regional championships. Congratulations to the following athletes for their individual success:
Aliana Szeto: District Champion in All-Around, Vault, Bars, and Beam. 2nd on Floor and 3rd on Vault at Regionals, qualifying for the State Championships.
Naomi Krischer: 2nd in Beam, 4th in Vault and All-Around, 5th in Bars and Floor.
Amber Richards: 6th on Beam.

Girls Basketball had an impressive 17-8 overall record. Senior Kaiden Kerkulah was honored with the National District Player of the Year title, named to the National District All Defensive Team, voted 1st Team All Occoquan Region, scored over 1000 career points. She also participated in the Suburban Classic All-Star Game.
Abigail Lee earned 2nd Team All-District and District All Defensive Team honors.
Helena Johnson received an All-District Honorable Mention.
Julia Baer was named to the National District All Rookie Team.
On the Boys Basketball side, the team finished with an 11-13 overall record, securing 9-5 in the National District and placing 4th. The team qualified for Regionals but was eliminated in the first round of both the District and Regional tournaments. Congratulations to the following players:
Chetan Maviti: 1st Team All-District and 2nd Team All-Region.
Anish Khandavalli: 2nd Team All-District.
Wrestling: Dominating the Mats
The Wrestling Team had an eventful season:
Team Record: Finished with a 1-7 district record but captured victory at the Potomac Duals, going 6-0.
Girls Team: 5th at National District Meet
Individual Achievements:
Jonathan French: A standout athlete who became District Champion and earned All-Region and All-State honors. Jonathan also had impressive finishes, including 2nd at NOVA Classic, 2nd at Battle at the Bridge, 2nd at Regionals, 4th at State, and 100 career pins.
Tyler Clark: Earned All-District honors and was crowned Pat Dulany Champion.
Jayelle Jones: In the first season of Varsity Girls Wrestling, Jayelle placed 2nd in the National District and 1st at the Region Zone 4 meet, qualifying for the State Meet.
Olivia Huang: This freshman placed 2nd at the National District Meet.
Mayhem Ghattas: Senior placed 3rd in the National District.
